Ingredients
Method
-
250g-300g Wagyu steak
-
Salt (preferably sea salt)
-
Freshly ground black pepper
-
Remove the Wagyu steak from the refrigerator about 30-60 minutes before cooking to allow it to come to room temperature. Pat the steak dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. This helps in getting a good sear. Season both sides of the steak generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Let it sit for a few minutes to absorb the seasoning.
-
Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat until it's hot.
Place the Wagyu steak in the pan. Let it sear undisturbed until you spot "sweat" on the surface of the meat, about 2-3 minutes. This indicates that the juices are starting to rise. Turn the steak over and let it sear on the other side, another 1-2 minutes. The exact time depends on the thickness of the steak and your desired level of doneness. -
Once the steak reaches your desired doneness, remove it from the pan and place it on a cutting board. Wrap the steak in foil and let it rest for about 5 minutes. Resting allows the juices to redistribute throughout the steak, making it more tender and flavorful.
-
Unwrap the steak and slice it against the grain to ensure maximum tenderness. Serve immediately, perhaps with a side of roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad.
