Ingredients

Method

  • 250g-300g Wagyu steak

  • Salt (preferably sea salt)

  • Freshly ground black pepper

  1. Remove the Wagyu steak from the refrigerator about 30-60 minutes before cooking to allow it to come to room temperature. Pat the steak dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. This helps in getting a good sear. Season both sides of the steak generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Let it sit for a few minutes to absorb the seasoning.

  2. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat until it's hot.
Place the Wagyu steak in the pan. Let it sear undisturbed until you spot "sweat" on the surface of the meat, about 2-3 minutes. This indicates that the juices are starting to rise. Turn the steak over and let it sear on the other side, another 1-2 minutes. The exact time depends on the thickness of the steak and your desired level of doneness.

  3. Once the steak reaches your desired doneness, remove it from the pan and place it on a cutting board. Wrap the steak in foil and let it rest for about 5 minutes. Resting allows the juices to redistribute throughout the steak, making it more tender and flavorful.

  4. Unwrap the steak and slice it against the grain to ensure maximum tenderness. Serve immediately, perhaps with a side of roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad.
